Kirsten Opstad is a musician, improviser, and lighting designer based out of Somerville, MA. She constitutes one half of folk-punk sensation The Crazy Exes from Hell as well as one whole of the singer-songwriter Kirsten Opstad. Recent releases include: Keep Your Stupid Moon (CXFH 2011) and A Little Unhappy EP (2010). She wrote the music for the stage production of Ilene Fischer’s Girl Hopping and for San Francisco filmmaker Whit Scott’s upcoming film Rolled.
Additionally, Kirsten performs weekly as a part of the Mainstage Cast at Improv Asylum in Boston’s Historic North End. The half improvised, half sketch revue goes up every weekend year-round. Luckily, if you’re not in Boston, you can find several videos online of Kirsten doing and saying ridiculous, often inappropriate things for comedy’s sake. You’re welcome. Kirsten also runs the improv program Horsin’ Around at Artbarn Community Theatre in Brookline, MA.
When not performing, she designs lighting for plays.
After running a successful Kickstarter campaign to produce her first full-length studio album, she’s heading into the studio. Check out the project video: http://kck.st/pjZPMT or track the process at http://kick.kirstenopstad.com
